Wildflower Meadows

I began making images of wildflower meadows during an artist’s residency at Lacock Abbey in Wiltshire in 2013, initially as a celebration of something beautiful which we really don’t have in Aotearoa.

I have since been shocked to discover that 97% of the wildflower meadows in the United Kingdom have been lost since the 1930’s. 97%!

This series is morphing into consideration for Aotearoa / New Zealand’s own species depletion – beginning with a work in progress tentatively titled ‘Tane’s Tears’ – reflecting on biodiversity loss and endemic bird species currently under threat.
